Ever came across an interesting image that you wanted to save for later? We all know that mere bookmarking doesn’t quite cut it in such situations. Solving this problem comes Wookmark, a neat little bookmarking tool that is specially designed for saving images. Once installed as a Firefox/Chrome extension, the tool lets you save any image you come across on the web to your Wookmark account.
To get started with the service, all you have to do is sign up for a free account. Once you’ve done that, simply install the Chrome or Firefox extension, and you’re good to go. Now, whenever you’re browsing a web page which contains some image you’d like to bookmark, simply hit the Wookmark button on the Chrome toolbar. This will highlight all the images that are there on the page allowing you to easily pick the picture you like and save it to your Wookmarks with a single click.
The extension also works great when you do a Google Image Search. On the search results
page, hit the Wookmark button and all the pictures will be highlighted. Once you’ve saved the image to your bookmarks, simply go to your Wookmarks profile to browse all the images that you have added to your account.
The other aspect of this service is its social features. The site lets you browse other people’s bookmarks or rather Wookmarks, so that you can favorite them or save them to your account. You can also add comments to other people’s pictures thus making the site a bit more interactive. Like other social media services, Wookmarks too allows users to follow each other allowing you to discover more images that you can add to your profile. Finally, once your collection is complete, you can showcase your images by creating an embeddable gallery of your Wookmarks.
Coming to the interface, I must say, I’m quite impressed by it. It’s clean, organized, and doesn’t look cluttered at all despite allowing you to visit a barrage of images at the same time.
Though image bookmarking is something that may not appeal to a large amount of users, designers will benefit a lot from this service as it makes their life much easier and organized.
